I’ve suspected for weeks now that AT&T is doing something to our internet connection here at the Magic Box underground bunker. I complained about it to my friends, I posted about it on Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg did not come to my rescue. I did however get pointed to a Reddit thread which linked to a blog post where the user had found a way to resolve the issue and so I decided to check it out. To my surprise, the trick mentioned in the article worked INSTANTLY! If you’re on a Windows PC and suspect your ISP may be throttling your connection to Youtube this workaround is definitely worth checking out.

So here is what you need to do:

First you need to be in a command shell with elevated privileges so hit the Start/Windows key on your keyboard or click Start and type “cmd” without quotes. When you see the CMD program shortcut come up you want to right click on that and Run As Administrator

If you see a UAC prompt click yes.

Enter the following command and hit Enter. You should see “OK” if the command is successful:

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="MAGICTUBE" dir=in action=block remoteip=173.194.55.0/24,206.111.0.0/16 enable=yes

YouTubeSucks

If you change your mind, and want your Youtube to be terribly slow again or are just worried that you might have broken something else the rule can easily be removed, just get into another elevated command prompt and run this command:

netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name="MAGICTUBE"
